MEGA PLANTATION DRIVES
The Problem
Trees and Plants are some of the most important resources in nature used by Humans and Animals in diverse manner. Trees and Plants are source for variety of useful products like paper, fruits, vegetables, medicine, wood, etc. Dependency of plants and trees for our daily livelihood has increase so much that around 15 billion trees are cut annually. The rapid deforestation is leading to global warming, lost of habitat, soil erosion and more such environmental issues.
Trees are important plants that have improved life through the provision of necessities. These needs make them valuable and contribute to the benefits of planting them. Trees provide a foundation for life. During photosynthesis, trees facilitate the breakdown of food materials in carbon dioxide and sunlight to produce carbohydrates. Carbohydrates promote the growth of food consumed by humans, such as apples and oranges, and animals, such as elephants and giraffes.
Trees battle climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide produced in various environmental processes and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Oxygen serves to improve the quality of the air, thereby regulating the climate. Trees also control the temperature by restraining the occurrence of the Sun, rain, and wind.
Trees lower the air temperature by regulating the intensity of the heat by minimizing the levels of carbon dioxide produced. Additionally, they lower temperatures by providing shade for homes and streets and releasing water vapor into the atmosphere, reducing the heat generated.
What is Mega Plantation Drive?
Mega Plantation Drive is an annual plantation drive organized by Dr. O P Bhalla Foundation in collaboration with Manav Rachna Educational Institutions and Manav Rachna Center for Peace and Sustainability. Different types of plants and trees and distributed and planted in rural areas, government schools and local community parks in an effort to preserve the environment and reduce the adverse effect of excessive deforestation. Around 25000+ plants have been distributed so far. MRites also take green pledge with the Government School Students to nurture informed, responsible and nature sensitive students. Mega Plantation Drives are organized annually in the month of August. Plants and Trees are donated based on the requirements of the participating villages and government schools.

In collaboration with the Clans of the Department of Student Welfare, Manav Rachna University and Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Dr. OP Bhalla Foundation organized a Mega Plantation Drive under the Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi in all the adopted villages of MREI. A large number of faculty and students actively participated in the drive.
Trees and saplings of Peepal, Jamun, Jamun, Neem, Gulmohur, Amaltas, Amrood and other species were distributed in large numbers based on each village’s requirements. Approximately 1500 saplings have been planted.
The event was a great success, with more than 75 students indulging in it. The event’s main objective was to educate young people about the value of ecosystems, plantations, and plant protection.
MEGA PLANTATION DRIVE 2022
Dr. O P Bhalla Foundation in collaboration with Manav Rachna Center for Peace and Sustainability organized Annual Mega Plantation Drive 2022 under Green Warrior Initiative. Unlike the previous plantation drives, the team visited different social groups, RWAs and Government Schools to plant different variety of plants.
The Students also took a green pledge with the Government School Students to motivate them to become environmentally conscious human being in the future. The plantation drive ended with the distribution of more than 2700 plants.
