Teachers on Call: Empowering Students with Accessible Education

Written by Harshal Yadav

An initiative ensuring access to quality education that remained a major challenge for many students in rural areas and small towns aims to bridge the gap between students and educational resources ensuring that every child has the support they need to succeed regardless of their financial burden. Teachers on Call Program has become a life-changer for individuals, especially Students from underprivileged or economically stressful backgrounds who often struggle to get the academic support needed. With this collaborative effort by Dr. OP Bhalla Foundation, Faridabad Educational Council, Sahaj Path Knowledge Foundation, and Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, this program offers vital educational support to students. The Teachers on Call Program provides a cost-free remedial education service designed to help students from Class 6 to 10 in government schools. With a focus on students from rural areas, small towns, and economically stressful backgrounds, the program offers access to volunteer teachers who can assist with subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, English, and Hindi via a simple call.

The beauty of the Teachers on Call program lied in its simplicity. Students can pick up the phone and call a dedicated number to connect with a volunteer teacher, free of charge, and receive help. These volunteer teachers, who are mostly from Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, offer their expertise to help students with their studies, clear doubts, and explain tricky concepts. Whether it’s a math problem that drives one insane or a history topic that’s hard to grasp, students can get real-time assistance. The best part is that this service is available to anyone who needs it, no appointments or schedules are required. Moreover, It’s designed to be flexible and accessible for students regardless of their location and time boundaries.

Since its launch, the impact of the Teachers on Call Program has been nothing short of exemplary. With over 18,000 students enrolled and more than 45,000 calls received to date, the program has already benefited over 15,000 students across Haryana. These students gained valuable academic support, boosting their confidence and helping them stay on track with their studies. In addition to the immediate help they received with homework and exam preparation, many students reported feeling more motivated and ambitious, knowing they have a voice they can rely on whenever required. Of course, this initiative was meaningless without the selfless dedication of more than 300 volunteer teachers proactively providing support. These educators are all from Manav Rachna and they generously offer their time to help students overcome academic hardships. Their commitment runs beyond just helping students and improving grades but also aims at fostering a deep relationship between students and educators. For many students, the Teachers on Call Program is more than just a homework help service – “It’s a lifeline”.  By offering this kind of accessible, flexible learning support, the Teachers on Call program helps ensure that no child is left behind, regardless of their situation. As the program continues to grow, it will undoubtedly reach more students across Haryana, helping them realize their full potential. The Teacher on Call program is a great example of how motives derived from vision can have a lasting impact on the community. By providing immediate, on-demand educational support, the program helped to shape a brighter, more equitable future for thousands of students.
