Importance of Welfare Programs

Haryana faces pressing welfare challenges, particularly in providing essential resources and support to underserved populations. Basic needs like food and clothing remain unmet for many, with dry grain and cloth donations covering only 60-70% of the identified demand. Book and stationery donations also fall short, reaching just 40% of students in need across rural areas. Additionally, geriatric care is limited, with only a few facilities providing dedicated support for elderly residents, despite a rising aging population. These gaps highlight the need for expanded donation drives, targeted welfare programs, and strengthened support networks to ensure that vulnerable communities, especially the elderly and orphaned, receive the dignity and care they deserve.

Our Initiatives

Donation and welfare activities form a core part of the Dr. O P Bhalla Foundation’s mission. Through initiatives aligned with SDG-1: No Poverty and SDG-10: Reduced Inequalities, we provide vital support to underserved communities in both rural and urban areas of District Faridabad, Haryana. Our programs include dry grain and cloth donation drives, book and stationery donations, and disaster relief aid. Additionally, we organize geriatric care and legal aid camps, offering comprehensive support to vulnerable populations. By addressing immediate needs and fostering long-term welfare, we aim to uplift and empower those facing socio-economic challenges.

SHARE IF YOU CARE

Problem

Many underprivileged families lack access to essential resources such as school supplies, computers, and medicines, which hinders educational and health outcomes for children and adults alike. In disaster-affected areas, immediate access to relief items like disaster kits, hygiene products, and emergency medical supplies is often unavailable, leaving vulnerable communities unprepared and underserved.

Our Solution

The “Share if You Care” initiative, aligned with SDG-1 (No Poverty), SDG-3 (Good Health and Well-being), and SDG-4 (Quality Education), addresses these challenges by providing necessity and relief items to those in need. Through donations of school stationery, books, notebooks, school bags, computers, medicines, and disaster relief kits, we empower underserved communities to overcome barriers to education, healthcare, and resilience in the face of emergencies.

paridaan

Problem

In Haryana, with temperatures reaching extremes in both summer and winter, access to proper clothing is essential for health and well-being. However, an estimated 10-15% of the population lacks adequate clothing, especially in rural and low-income areas. Many households face financial constraints, making it difficult to afford sufficient clothing for family members, leading to discomfort and health risks, especially among children and the elderly.

Our Solution

Paridaan – Cloth Donation Drive aligned with SDG-1 (No Poverty) and SDG-10 (Reduced Inequalities), addresses this need by organizing regular drives to collect and distribute gently used clothing to underserved communities across Haryana. By partnering with local organizations and volunteers, we ensure that seasonal clothing reaches those most affected, providing comfort and protection against harsh weather.

ek mutthi daan

Problem

In Delhi NCR, approximately 24 lakh people go to bed hungry every night, with food insecurity impacting marginalized communities such as slum dwellers, street children, migrants, and low-income families. Nationwide, India reports one of the highest levels of child malnutrition, with around 4,500 children under five years of age dying daily from hunger-related conditions. Malnutrition continues to be a major issue for children in Delhi NCR, with 33.1% of children underweight and 46.7% stunted, according to the National Family Health Survey.

Our Solution

Ek Mutthi Daan is an annual Dry Grain Donation Initiative aligned with SDG-2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG-10 (Reduced Inequalities) which aims to combat hunger by partnering with several NGOs to distribute staples such as rice, wheat, and pulses to underserved families, helping alleviate hunger and support dietary needs.

legal-aid

Problem

In Haryana, approximately 70% of the rural population lacks access to affordable legal aid, with around 30-40% unaware of their basic legal rights, according to recent state surveys. Issues related to property, labor rights, and family disputes are common, yet complex legal processes and high costs deter many from seeking assistance. Without accessible legal support, these individuals face barriers to justice, reinforcing cycles of poverty and social inequality.

Our Solution

Legal Aid Camps, aligned with SDG-10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG-16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) organized in collaboration with School of Law, Manav Rachna, bridges this gap by providing free legal guidance, awareness in underserved areas. and document preparation. Legal Aid Camps offers them knowledge about their rights and access to counsel on pressing legal matters. This initiative empowers citizens to address legal issues with confidence, fostering a fairer, more just society.

geriatric care

Problem

In Delhi NCR, the issue of elderly abandonment is increasingly concerning, with reports indicating that approximately 25-30% of older adults experience being forced out of their homes, regardless of socioeconomic status. This abandonment can stem from various factors, including family disputes, changing societal norms, and a lack of awareness about elder rights. The resulting isolation and lack of support leave many seniors vulnerable to health issues, emotional distress, and poverty.

Our Solution

The Geriatric Care Initiative, aligned with SDG-3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG-10 (Reduced Inequalities), aims to address this crisis by providing comprehensive support for abandoned seniors throughout Delhi NCR. Through our programs like Youth Meetups, Health Camps, Donation Drives and Volunteer Support, Dr O P Bhalla Foundation provide support to several Old Age Homes in the region.
