To address this problem Dr O P Bhalla Foundation and Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC) has taken a commendable step to bring quality dental care to the people who are usually unable to access dental with the help of ‘Mobile Dental Health Programme’.
This initiative introduces India’s first solar-powered mobile dental unit which is equipped with advanced facilities that make the mobile dental van the equivalent of a modern dental Clinic on wheels. The van offers two fully functional dental chairs allowing multiple patients to receive care simultaneously. It also includes a portable X-ray machine, motorized suction, IEC facilities, and a Public Address System (PAS) to support comprehensive dental care. These features help dentists provide screenings, preventive treatment, and specialized care all with the help of sustainable solar energy. By using renewable energy, the van is also capable of operating in areas with limited or unreliable power supply reflecting MRDC’s commitment to healthcare and the environment.
The core mission of the Mobile Dental Van is to help people who are usually unable to obtain dental services, especially in rural or marginalized communities. By bringing essential services directly to these communities, the dental van screens approximately 30,000 to 40,000 people through outreach camps each year, providing a robust solution for individuals who otherwise wouldn’t have access to quality dental care. Early diagnosis is very crucial for maintaining oral health in the long term as it prevents minor problems from escalating into serious dental issues which helps thousands of people achieve better oral health each year.
In addition to the treatment the mobile dental van also emphasizes education about oral hygiene as most of the oral issues stem from the lack of awareness about dental hygiene. MRDC’s initiative goes beyond delivering dental services by also educating individuals about preventive measures. The IEC facilities inside the van are designed to share essential information about brushing techniques, the importance of frequent check-ups, and dietary advice to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. This approach helps spread awareness about oral health, helping a number of people prevent serious dental issues that can help reduce the need for treatment in the future.

By offering reliable, affordable dental service the Mobile Dental Van enables residents from all socioeconomic backgrounds to receive quality care.
