The students of Department of Social Work, Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences in collaboration with Dr. O P Bhalla Foundation and Ashray Adhikar Abhiyan (AAA) organized a Medicine Donation Campaign for the homeless people recently. The students collected medicines from various classes and will be providing the same to the homeless people of Delhi. Many students participated in the campaign by purchasing new medicines from the list that was suggested by Ashray Adhikar Abhiyan. AAA originated as a citizens’ campaign to fight for the rights of the homeless people in India and make the State accountable towards their rights. The service oriented approach aims at rendering services to the poor and homeless people, keeping in view their most basic and immediate needs. These services include day and night shelters, holistic healthcare program, and a food program for the children and residential educational support to children.

The students of Social Work visited different classes and different spots of the university campus to mobilize about the campaign. The student social workers gave a presentation in various classes and encouraged the students to take part in the campaign. The student social workers also spoke to the faculty members individually and each of them supported the campaign. Over all, the student social workers were able to collect two boxes of medicines to donate to the homeless people. We plan to do many such initiatives in the department and encourage the youngsters to participate in many noble causes.
