‘Driving is like baseball, it’s the one who gets home safely that counts.’

Department of Students Welfare and Dr. O. P. Bhalla Foundation organized a ‘One Life Road Safety Awareness Programme’ in I Block Auditorium on 26th July, 2016 in association with District Legal Services Authority, Faridabad. Ms. Sampreet Kaur, Chief Judicial Magistrate, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Faridabad, Mr. Devinder Kumar Yadav, ACP Traffic, Faridabad, Mr. Prem Khilani from Indian Road Traffic Institute and Mr. Surender Sharma, Active Volunteer and Vice President, Road Safety Organization graced the occasion by their esteemed presence. The event was organized in order to sensitize the students about the precautions that they should take while on road and to make them aware about the hazards of rash driving and breaking traffic rules. This campaign is being organized in various places to create full awareness amongst the public at large by DLSA, Faridabad in association with Police / Traffic department, Faridabad.

The event started off with a presentation by Mr. Prem Khilani stating some useful facts and figures about road mishaps and a glimpse of the traffic scenario in Faridabad. He also made the students aware about the need and significance of helmets, seatbelts and other safety measures on roads. Alcohol being the major reason of most road accidents, he further briefed the present audience about its influence on an individual. Mr. Devinder Kumar, ACP Traffic, Faridabad also supported Mr. Khilani’s views and presented a picture of various accident scenarios in the city along with their cause. Ms. Sampreet Kaur, CJM, DLSA Faridabad focused on the reason for starting this campaign and the increasing incidences of fatalities on the road. She requested everyone present in the Auditorium to help if we encounter someone in need on the roads and drive safely.

Mr. Surender Sharma shared his experience of coming across various drastic accident sites on roads and emotionally connected with the people to make them understand the importance of Safe Driving. Prof. I. K. Kilam thanked the officials and guests for being a part of this noble and thought provoking event and urged everyone to practice safe driving. He also presented saplings and mementos to the guests to thank them as a token of appreciation. Prof. Kilam also thanked Dr. M. K. Soni, Dr. Pradeep Varshaney and FET team to have deputed the 1st year B. Tech students for this programme and to all those students in the audience for their rapt attention and listening.
